Abstract

This article is a reflection on the process of formation of the spanish State in Early Modem times, precisely untili the promulgation of the Constitution on 1812. The essential role played by the decisive advances of the Catholic monarchs, as an answer —we should not forget it- to a society that was asking for changes. The important work done by Philip II in that sense, specially in Castile, which originated an evident progress in the construction of the State architecture, even though the work left was still relevant in 1598. After the deterioration suffered during the XVIIth century, the next century would see the spanish State machinery to become stablished. A long and hazardous path is gone over, scaping from neogoticist positions as well as from others that question the existence of the State till the arrival of the XlXth century.
