Abstract

The main argument of this paper is that Granada's municipal constitution and treasure came out of the development of the renditions treaties in may 1492, nothwinstanding the fact that most authors have described the municipal regime as the result of the “Carta Constitutiva” dated 20 September 1500. In my opinion the legal framework of the royal bills issued to complete the change of legal status of Muslim population after the massive baptisms can only provide the ultimate meaning of this document. The raise of a unified political body in the city needed a unified population’s legal status provided by the Christianization of all Granada’s Mudejares.
