Abstract

This article shows the interest that Philip II had in such a sublime science as is astronomy and his strong influence on introducing the Gregorian calendar to the Christian world. It start with a brief critic, introducing the pragmatic signed by the King in Aranjuez May 1583. The importance of this royal order goes further than the astronomic interest itself as it could be the first one printed in South America.
