This article analyzes critically the idea of People and the way in which History is commonly handled by nationalist doctrines, with the corresponding consequences for the relationship between individual and collective rights, as well as for the manner of conceiving and realizing democracy. It also throws into relief the theoretical problems embedded in the notion of “historic rights”.
