This article analyses the tension between freedom and security from the criticism of the use of social imagery to legitimate socially the reduction in liberties and rights. The pertinent use of imagery in this case is clarified. Instead of a social imagery it deals rather with a wide range of images of security vital to the discourse of order. The strength of images such as zero tolerance, borders, enemy criminal law, cinematograph vision of delinquency etc. fosters social restrictions in international security policy, media, the author puts forward the use of political imagination and a legal construction of more imaginative combinations of values. immigration, or penal law. This images are analysed from the parallelism drawn from the metaphors of economic discourse (invisible hand, self made man...). Opposed to this imagery, given by pragmatic economical and political reasons and spread by mass media, the author puts forward the use of political imagination and a legal construction of more imaginative combinations of values.
