The literature offers an array of definitions for political corruption with the key distinction lying in the conceptualization of political corruption in strictly legal terms or in the inclusion of instances of public morality as well. The greater or lesser extension of the types of political corruption and their causes included in the diverse definitions emanates from the earlier distinction. The aim of this article is to examine a series of remedies for the reduction of political corruption. These are independence and autonomy of public powers, conscience and practice of citizen´s public morality, the assumption of political responsibilities, the institutionalization of public morality through supervising and monitoring organs in both public institutions and political parties and the limitation of administrative discretionary powers.
