One of the most repeated slogans in 15M demonstrations is “politicians do not represent us”. In order to verify if this criticism is really justif ied, in this paper we analyse, first, what political representation must be in a democratic state. Secondly, and with the aim of checking if politicians really represent us, this paper considers the electoral system, how politicians exercise their representative function and the specific rights that, theoretically, guarantee the proper exercise of this function.
