The concept of democratic citizenship sensitive to difference and diversity is the best scenario for political socialization. In this context, the debate about education is greatly enriched by various points of view of deliberative democracy, taking into account that the educational system is the most relevant instrument of socialization. Within the boundaries of these assumptions, it is urgent to encourage a civic republicanism, grounded on personal autonomy and tolerance in a way that ensures an active political community, sharing basic values and goals. The process of socialization, committed to achieving these aims, has to include a new apprenticeship: training in the ability of how to escape from standards and habits. This is the best antidote against the uncertainty and complexity of our times.
