Peer tutoring and its relationship with social skills of vocational training students

Abstract
The objective of this work is to analyze the relationship between peer tutoring and some social skills of the professional training student, self-knowledge, communication and proactivity. In this study, two figures of peer tutoring are considered, the tutor peer and the tutored peer. The participants in this research are 582 students from various Vocational Training families in Valencia, Spain. The data is collected through a questionnaire. The results show that vocational training students consider that studying together with classmates helps them improve their learning. However, this teaching practice is rarely used.Moreover, self-knowledge, communication skills and proactivity are found to be significantly related to the tutor peer and the tutored peer. This work advances the study of the figure of peer tutoring by analyzing it with the student’s social skills. In addition, this work opens paths towards improving teaching by effectively implementing peer tutoring in the student’s vocational training.
