Abstract
Introduction: Being overweight and obesity are a health problem in the Sahara population. In contrast to Western countries, where social pressure is directed towards a slim body, the model of female beauty in the Sahara is associated with an obese figure.
Objectives: To design a Nutritional Education Programme directed at students of Secondary Education of the Wilaya of Auserd (Tindouf). To involve students in their own education.
Material and method: A programme is designed in 3 phases: Diagnostic phase: in previous studies the prevalence of being overweight and obesity was analysed and the causes on which it is possible to act were determined. Design and implementation phase of the programme, so that it can be replicated by the students during the school year. Evaluation phase: at the end of the school year, check the total number of participants and the achievement of objectives.
Results: Aesthetic preferences indicate that fat women are more attractive. This preference is not observed over men’s bodies. We present a programme made up of 6 sessions, each lasting approximately 2 hours.
Conclusions: A nutritional education programme should modify the diet and minimise and make visible the impact on health of local beauty ideals, incorporating young people of both genders into their own education.
