Abstract

This paper introduces different team teaching types and definitions in general, by analyzing international team teaching experiences. The pros and cons this model presents are pointed out, mainly in the field of higher education while experiences proving its effectiveness in that area are included. Finally, there is a section on challenges for team teaching in a bilingual or plurilingual context. It is in this setting in which teacher coordination among staff taking part into such an experience and the degree coordinator seems to be crucial in order to guarantee success. The main problems when establishing team teaching in bilingual instruction are highlighted and several measures are offered in order to boost teacher motivation and participation. This proposal has been developed taking into account the specific characteristics of the bilingual group from the Primary Education Degree set at the Faculty of Education, University of Granada in 2011.
