This article is about Claudine de France (1937-2023), anthropologist and filmmaker, and her important theoretical and methodological contribution on documentary film and visual anthropology, or filmic as she preferred to qualify it. Are remembered the most relevant aspects of her reflection and the permanent link with practical experiences in film making. Claudine de France has led the training and research laboratory for ethnographic cinema, set up with Jean Rouch in the 1970s at the University of Paris-X Nanterre.
