Memories from a forgotten memory: the conservation of China’s Historical Landscape Heritage
Keywords:
Heritage, Landscape, China, Asian studiesAbstract
This article aims to give a brief presentation of the difficulties concerning the conservation of historical landscape heritage in China, nowadays as well as in the XX century. Destruction of historical heritage in China has been one of the most important and tragic in the last century. In this period, the historical landscape heritage has suffered ravages of war and political turmoil, and also an important environmental aggression and tourist super exploitation. During the last two decades there have been serious attempts to protect and restore gardens and mountain natural settings, but the pressures of speculation and super exploitation of these places, makes it very difficult to balance the economical interests and the cultural protection.
