Una acústica católica para la Barcelona de finales del siglo XIX: cuerpo, alma y subjetividad

Resumen

En la segunda mitad del siglo XIX empieza a consolidarse una nueva forma de entender y relacionarse con el sonido, que deriva del pensamiento romántico al moderno. En Europa, la nueva ciencia acústica impartida por Helmholtz y Tyndall es acompañada por un nuevo pensamiento estético-musical, basado en el determinismo material de la escucha. El presente trabajo analiza la manera en la que esta ciencia acústica europea, junto con sus significaciones adyacentes, se interpretaron en el contexto local de Barcelona, atendiendo a los condicionantes de la religión católica. A través del estudio de caso de las conferencias impartidas por Francisco de Paula Rojas en el Ateneu Barcelonès en el año 1877, se estudiará la construcción de una teoría acústica católica, en la que los elementos científicos y religiosos se presentaron en armonía. De este modo, se extraerán las interacciones presentes entre la cosmología científica y la religiosa, así como las relaciones entre el pensamiento científico y el estético.
