Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine areas exposed to the danger of excess water events in the Napostá Grande watershed (province of Buenos Aires, Argentina) using Multicriteria Assessment (EMC) techniques and map algebra. For this, variables from the natural enviroment related to the generation of floods and overflows of the Napostá Grande stream were selected. A matrix was constructed in which weights were established according to the level of relative importance that each variable and its components present with respect to the probability of increasing the levels of danger, through the method of comparison by pairs. The results were analyzed through Geographic Information Systems and through EMC to identify the sectors susceptible to events of excess water in order to implement a Spatial Decision Support System. Partial results were obtained that lead to the final result by statistical and cartographic combinations. The location of sectors exposed to the occurrence of excess water events was verified through different hazard categories (very low, low, medium, high and very high), relevant information for territorial planning and management.
