Main Article Content
Abstract
The research examines the socio-spatial vulnerability of elderly people in the city of Granada. The methodology combines quantitative and qualitative aspects, such as analysis of population databases, a survey of people 65 years and over, and the development of cartography at a scale of neighborhoods and sections. The results indicate that factors vulnerable dependency, social exclusion and disability, explain the socio-spatial vulnerability of elderly people, which is exacerbated by biological and demographic aging, and environmental contexts precarious to aging in place (poverty, problems in housing and neighborhood, neglect and lack of help). The spatial distribution of aging vulnerability index shows that the elderly vulnerable are concentrated in the historic center neighborhoods and slums on the periphery, where there are problems of accessibility to health and social services. It is expected that vulnerable elderly population will increase by aging, lack of services, lack of prevention, and absence of gerontological planning.
