Territorial trajectory of Queretaro, Mexico wine region (1970-2017): wine tourism and territorial quality
Main Article Content
Abstract
The emergence of recreational activities in rural areas reveals a process of turistification of the territory, in which its material and symbolic dimensions are converted into goods at the service of tourist markets. The case of the wine region of Queretaro is discussed, where the processes of appropriation of the territory within the framework of wine tourism are described. From the perspective of the cultural biography of the territory and from a qualitative approach, it is discussed how tourism has meant a mechanism of territorial appropriation and dynamization of the territory. It is observed that wine tourism is an exhibition platform for wines from Queretaro and is a tool for the application of territorial quality, associated with these products. Quality, tourism and territory are three interdependent realities that illustrate the consolidation of late capitalism in rural areas, at the same time as they are the precondition for the economic and cultural revitalization of wine producing spaces.
