Tourist geography of the Dominican Republic: demand behavior, sustainable management and study proposal

Abstract
Tourism has experienced continuous growth, becoming a key sector for the development, prosperity and well-being of destinations. The objective of this research is to analyze the behavior of the international tourism demand of the Dominican Republic, establish implications for the sustainable management of the country’s tourism resources and propose future lines of research. The methodology used in this investigation has consisted in the analysis of data from secondary sources. It has been proven that international arrivals of tourists to the country are constantly growing, although given the tourism potential of the Dominican Republic and the depletion of sun and beach tourism, implications have been generated for the sustainable tourism management of tourism. Through a diversification of the tourist offer, taking advantage of the natural and cultural potential of the country. In addition, a study model has been proposed to know the perceptions of the destination’s stakeholders and to establish sustainable tourism management actions.
