Abstract

The grave territorial problems existing in The Canary Islands have motivated a continuous normative development since the eighties reached with the approval in 2000 of a law in which the land management, the town planning and the protection of the natural areas are part of a hierarchical structure. Besides, the current decade has been characterized by the normative definition of a model of sustainable development by means of Guidelines of Planning. In this paper, we approach the analysis of the characteristics of the land planning in The Canary Islands and the model of development promulgated, in order to demonstrate his limited capacity of intervention. Moreover, we try to reflect on the new anticyclical regulations approved recently that might collapse part of the model of development generated in the present decade.
