Abstract

The concept of sustainability has been extensively used to justify political agendas that maintain the traditional authoritarian rule and reinforced both socioeconomic divisions as well as spatial segregation in Mexico City. This paper argues that even when promising democratic practices in Mexico City have been on the making in the last decade —where three opposition Mayors have been addressing social issues—-, citizens remain still peripheral n the decision processes regarding the kind of desirable development for the city, compromising then, its sustainability.
