Abstract

The housing conditions have been recognized as one of major social determinants of health. The deficiencies in housing and sanitation are a major determinant of excess mortality repeatedly and consistently feature linked to the levels of poverty, socio-economic backwardness and territorial inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The present work aims to obtain a classification of the program areas of the province of Chaco in terms of housing characteristics and levels of child mortality by principal component analysis and cluster analysis.

The Chaco province, is located in northeastern part of Argentina and integrates the Big North region of Argentina. Geopolitically, is part of a peripheral area, with a weak and station- ary economy and is among the most deficient provinces of Argentina.
