Abstract
Studying ancient pollen is an essential tool for understanding how the environment has evolved; and how humans, immersed in this dynamic nature, contribute as an active agent in the transformation of their physical space and landscape configuration. In 2010 soil samples were taken from the Candelaria river basin, near raised fields, next to the El Tigre archaeological site. Their analysis and study will allow us to review the changes in the vegetal cover that supposedly, took place in the region in prehispanic times. This article presents a description concerning intensive agricultural production systems in the Maya area, and some preliminary work on the pollen from the El Tigre region. This will be an introduction for a much more detailed pollen study in the near future.
