Abstract
Generally the city of El Alto (Bolivia) is analyzed as a homogeneous urban core. This article analyzes the existence of examples of combined and uneven urban development.
The main objective is to address the strategies of access to habitat and the (re) appropriation of urban territory by aymara migrant residents in the suburb El Porvenir I and in the central district 16 de Julio. Attention is also provided to the dispute with the various social actors involved in the dynamics of neighborhood construction: informal «loteadores» and the State during the period 1985-2012.
To carry out this study, I conducted a qualitative methodology, which included semi -structured in-depth to key informants and migrant residents, non-participant observation, incorporating secondary source.
