Recent precipitation and temperature trends in the Mediterranean region of the Iberian Peninsula: revisiting the signal of global warming on a regional scale
Main Article Content
Abstract
Climate projections and studies carried out show the Mediterranean basin to be a region highly affected by the effects of global warming. The aim of this work is to find out, through a literature review, what the main effects observed in precipitation, temperatures and extreme phenomena are on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula, and to what extent the Mediterranean Sea is contributing to this change in climatic conditions. The results have shown that there are certain climatic variables, such as tropical nights and intense precipitation, which in recent decades have been increasing in the study area. The reason is due to several factors, although the continuous increase in the surface temperature of the Mediterranean Sea seems to be playing a differentiating role in the “Mediterraneanisation” of this region.
