Abstract

The consequences of the last real estate boom have opened the debate about urban expansion in Spain, especially in areas with a strong tourist and residential pressure. In this article, we analyze some of the implications of the global financial crisis on the municipal urban planning, focusing the study on the province of Alicante, one of the areas that best illustrate the success and fall of Hispanic Real Estate Model. The basic unit of analysis will be the current city planning and its translation to unfinished urban landscapes. Whereas they are latent actions awaiting for a favorable economic context, suggest that the housing bubble would not burst but it would only be deflated.

The aim is to reflect, purposefully, on land management strategies that emerged in recent years as a result of financial and housing crisis, trying to relaunch some issues that should be concerned in urban and regional planning in the province of Alicante and by extension, in other areas affected by the real state crash.
