Abstract
Geography has much to contribute to the awareness and improvement of urban areas at risk of social exclusion through the application of ICT in the field of Web 2.0 and oriented toward different population groups living in these spaces.
This paper shows an example of an Action research conducted in a classroom from a secondary school that is located in the district Palma-Palmilla. This district is an area at risk of social exclusion in the city of Málaga (Spain). Therefore, and bearing in mind the resources and educational methodology that can help to alleviate this situation of social exclusion, we have created specifically for this purpose a teaching unit called «Other approach to Palma - Palmilla» to bring students closer to the technological resources in Geography and to make them aware of what Geography is and which the main tasks developed by geographers are. Its main goal is to raise awareness of students and try to engage them in improving the area in where they live, by the perception of the space they inhabit. The results of this initiative are reflected in a series of documents prepared by the students themselves, along with perceptions of the participating researchers through different data collection instruments such as questionnaires completed by students and a dairy classroom written by researchers.
