Characterisation of the Izki Pyrenean oakwoods grove and analysis of the chorological affiliation and statusofitstaxa

Abstract
The Pyrenean oak or Pyrenean oakwoods forest (Quercus pyrenaica) is a plant grouping distributed from the north of France to the Moroccan Rif. In the Iberian Peninsula it shows a distribution associated fundamentally to the siliceous Iberia, given its siliceous character. However, its patches become scarcer towards the south and east. In this case, we characterize and analyze two characteristics such as the chorological affiliation and the status of the taxa that make up the so-called Izki forest, in the province of Alava (Basque Country). For this purpose, 10 plots of 20x20 meters were selected with a stratified but randomized system. During two years, different visits were made to characterize all the taxa that appeared in these plots and to determine their cover. The results show a forest with a good specific richness, with a dominance of Eurosiberian and Atlantic phyla and a relatively high number of scarce or rare taxa.
