Abstract
This paper examines the major demographic changes in the urban settlements of the Mexican Riviera betwen 1950 and 1995. First, we present the basic characteristcs of the evolution and most recent trends of demographic change in the region. Then, we follow on the territorial concentration of population and, finally, we describe the regional process of urbanisation, closelyrelated to the expansion of tourism in this part of Mexico.
