Abstract

Public institutions related to agro recommend farmers to supress within their cultivation practices those products on wich Mexico does not have a coparative advantages such as grain, and foster the use of other products than can be distribute it easily and obtain greater profitability, such as fruits and vegetables. This article study the case of ejidatarios and comuneros small owners who are devoted to produce avocado in the last decades, a succesful product in terms of business and exportation. First, we study the profitability of these products for farmers and, secondly, we show the dificulties of competing in an open market under the control of large producers and international distribution companies.
