Abstract

Geographers find in the general lack of awareness of their scientific and professional potential one of the main obstacles to their growth as a group. Therefore, scientific dissemination should be one of our main goals as members of this community. The educational experience has involved 102 students of the Degree in Primary Education Teaching (Faculty of Teaching Training and Education of the University of Oviedo), in whose second year the subject “Fundamentals of Geography” is taught. It has consisted of the development of educational podcasts aimed at primary school pupils, which explain different aspects of Geography: its specialties, professional opportunities, the main geographical currents, its foundations and its evolution as an ancient fundamental knowledge with a great current value. The project uses the educational potential of podcasting, so that students develop basic skills for their professional future in a motivating context, but also of its disseminating potential, through the creation of a podcast open-access repository. The project was positively valued through the use of three indicators related to academic results, and with a questionnaire showing the degree of satisfaction of the students.
