Abstract

Nowadays, Vic, the capital of the Osona district (Catalonia, Spain), is suffering an important shift in its population structure due to the increasing arrival of foreign immigration. The immigrated population has raised in the last five years and currently achieves the figure of 10% up to the total population. The most outstanding fact is that more than 80% of the immigrated population has African roots, mainly Moroccan. The aim of this paper is to provide an analysis of the current demographical situation of the foreign population in Vic. This will be completed with an overview of the social problems of this population as well as with a review of the policy being carried in order to integrate newcomers.
