Abstract

The period from the establishment of the democratic city council of the 2nd Republic (15April 1931) in the city of Granada until its substitution by a management committee, which wasalso republican, but with a different political leaning (13 October 1934), is not one of the mostproductive with regards to urban achievements because this period did not last very long anddue to the harsh opposition from the city’s economic and political right, among other reasons. However, despite the fact that the vast majority of these urban projects, some new andothers inherited, were barely consolidated, it is interesting to find out about them as they are anexample of the new social objectives of this republican/socialist corporation, because they formpart of our most recent urban history and, in addition, because they are an example of the effortsof a generation that tried to change too many things too fast. This article is a small sample ofsome of these actions and of some of the people behind them.
