El Permanent European Conference for the Study of the Rural Landscapes (PE CSRL), fue creado en 1957 en Nancy (Francia), en un primer momento sus miembros se dedicaban, principalmente, a la geografía histórica, si bien, en las sesiones posteriores se han adherido investigadores con otros perfiles profesionales, pero siempre interesados en el pasado, presente y futuro de los paisajes europeos.
