Abstract

The Landscape Policy of the Valencian Region has been inspired by the European Landscape Convention and has produced a new legal and administrative framework that gives to the landscape an essential role in territorial planning. In order to achieve this goal every Strategic Plan and every Project prone to affect the landscape should be respectively accompanied by a Landscape Plan or by a Landscape Assessment Study as well as by a Public Participation Plan. Additionally, the Valencian Territorial and Landscape Department, as the body responsible for the definition and implementation of the Landscape Policy, is developing a series of Plans and Programs to be applied on the most valuable landscapes of the Region and on the areas submitted to strong processes of transformation.
