Abstract

This study presents an analysis of the training needs in the field of criminology of criminal justice system operators in three South American countries: Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. Through the detailed evaluation of the various curricula in criminology, it seeks to obtain a comprehensive understanding of how this discipline is approached in each region and, more specifically, to identify the essential training demands to address and prevent crime in these countries. The research is based on the study of the nominal groups implemented within the SUCCESS project, with the participation of professionals in the field of justice and policing. The analysis highlights similarities, such as a shared interest in criminology and research, but also shows specific needs in each country. While Brazil and Peru show an interest in humanistic education, Colombia stands out in areas such as victimology and prevention. The article emphasises the importance of adjusting training to the needs of each country and profession, underlining the need for continuous research to improve the capacity of professionals to respond to daily challenges. The relevance of designing training programmes based on these findings is highlighted as a crucial step to adequately prepare police and judicial agents for changes in criminal behaviour and policies.
