Impresiones de una romántica: entre las costumbres y la modernidad; una visión pedagógica e histórica

Abstract

Travelling and solitude are two key words to understand the life of Laura Méndez. On the one hand, she travelled in order to learn and discover. On the other, she wandered alone in trips marked by memoirs, passion and homesick. Méndez, at maturity, was a traveller able to mix in her writings passion, daily work, erudition and disillusion, sense and sensibility. Her chronicles was made with a balanced prose, both romantic and realistic, melancholic and didactic. He also had a critical look at the societies she described, pointing at their advances or cultural paradoxes.
