Abstract

In the context of postmodernity, identity merges into culture as cultural consciousness plays an increasingly more relevant role in processes of identity construction and social cohesion. In a world ruled by the markets, and condemned to represent itself as a “society of the spectacle” that has turned its back on reality, we need to understand cultural creation as a civilising act opposed to barbarity and to choose reflection over irrationality.
