Abstract
This essay analyses Maria zambrano’s most decisive contribution to contemporary thought —the poetic reason— from a gender perspective, in the context of the European crisis triggered by World War two. The essay focuses on some feminine characters which zambrano uses in order to give voice as well as presence to that “poetic reason”: antigone, Diotima, and the Galdosian character benina, the main one in the novel Misericordia. The paper considers also the philosophical and poetic traditions in which zambrano articulates her thought. This approach allows to emphasize the originality of zambrano’s thought and to point out the diversity of interpretations that this text permits from the gender construction perspective.
