Abstract

This paper discusses the Action-Research Project “Cineduka”, which wascarried out by a group of teachers of Visual Arts and History who teach at 7thgrade in public schools in the Region of O’Higgins, Chile. To this end we heldwork meetings, training sessions and in-class teaching support, whose main pedagogical resources included the visualization of films and the audiovisualcreation by students. The goal was to develop intercultural competencessuch as dialoguing and intercultural reflection in two courses of the Chileancurriculum, thus promoting new learnings about diversity at school andsociety. The main results reveal that both students and teachers praise the interculturalapproach and include it in their teaching practices, considering this topic asclose and necessary. In this line, film visualization and audiovisual creationallowed for reflective thinking, dialogue and emotion activation in students. We conclude that the methodology implemented by “Cineduka” realizesan innovative pedagogical proposal that may contribute to developingintercultural competences in teachers and students, which tackles the needfor flexible methodologies and teaching processes in the Chilean schoolingsystem.
