Abstract

The social role played by women in Tunisia has changed considerably since 1956; it was in this year when a bill of rights concerning women's social status was passed by the Parliament. Cultural, political, and social changes made their appearence in the writings of women; this holds particularly true regarding fiction: new literary tendencias were the outcome of a changing situation. The article focuses on the writings of the major representatives of women's fiction from 1956 onwards.
