Abstract

The impression caused in Emilio García Gómez by his first visit to Granada was decisive in his work and also in his life. He started there his career as Professor of Arabic language in 1930. The experiences lived during that period were collected in his famous book Silla del Moro y Nuevas escenas andaluzas, (Granada, 1978), where the deep marks left in the author by the city can be traced and tasted in his comments throughout the book. The influence of Don Emilio, as first director of the Instituto Hispano-Arabe de Cultura (1954), on the later activities of the institution, is also analyzed, especially in its new publications, a legacy for the memory and benefit of the Spanish Arabism.
