Abstract

Nowadays, recreations of historical events have become popular in Portugal and Spain and they are of particular cultural interest. These events are sponsored by local authorities, and many people take part in them. They are leisure activities and provide an opportunity for people of different origins to meet together.

For an evaluation of the recreation of historical events from the point of view of tourism, we took as a reference the Medieval Market which takes place in Ávila, Spain, and the Medieval Journey in Terra de Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal.
