Abstract
In view of the requirements posed by global dynamics, and the problems brought by the international labor division in the agricultural sector, the need to identify agricultural regions according to their productive capacities in order to reach competitiveness, in maize production emerges. The research was based in harvested surface and yield of maize in the agricultural cycle of 2013/2014 to evaluate the productive potential of regions that produce corn. It was implemented the multicriteria analysis, to analyze the high yield region by using the following climatic and agronomic variables: a) temperature, b) precipitation, c) soil type. Such an analysis dropped three maize producer regions; high (2,64 ton/ha) medium (0,97 ton/ha) and low potential (0,34) the first one is located in the neovolcanic axis that start from the Popocatepetl volcano to the Citlaltepetl. And the fourth one, the optimal region, that is located in Los Llanos de Serdán that has an extension of 2590 km2 and its production represented 24,9% of the production of the State. It is concluded that the most appropriated region to grow corn is located in the neovolcanic axis and more specifically in Los Llanos de Serdán.
