Abstract

In this article, the recording of immigration of foreign-born in population registers is analysed for Andalusian municipalities from 1998 to 2010, as well as its temporal and spatial patterns. Using data from the Statistical Variation Statistics, the findings demonstrate how trends in immigration movements have been largely shaped by significant changes to legislation such as the Regularización of 2000, the Normalización of 2005, the entry of Romania in the European Union, and the economic recession since the second semester of 2008. The spatial analysis also highlights the differential impact of these aspects in the geography of Andalusia, which allow us to establish different municipal typologies according to the migration trends and the characteristics and geographical location of foreign-born populations.
