Abstract

Vulnerability is the variable in which the decision makers can influence, specially when analyzing a geographical space built under obvious seismic hazard conditions. This case of study is centered on the analysis of structural vulnerability in Toluca City, using a qualitative methodology. Three indicators are considered in this article: constructive typologies, age of the constructions and the period of construction based on the application of the General Construction Regulations in Toluca Municipality.

The results obtained allowed us to identify four levels of structural vulnerability, in which there can be identified 866 blocks in a very high level of vulnerability and 1430 classified with high vulnerability, where approximately 218 314 people live. The resulting cartography is included in the structural vulnerability reduction plans to manage the disaster risk. At the same time, some lines of inquiry were established for future investigations, mainly when defining the function of vulnerability for the typical buildings in the city, and the analysis of the site effect through the geotechnical conditions of the urban scenery.
