Abstract

The study of geographical mobility is not a new phenomenon, on the contrary, the global interest on the matter increases even more in times of economic crisis. The reason is that, when options are limited, geographical mobility becomes relevant in the search of employment —for many migrants, geographical mobility becomes a survival strategy. In this paper, we will go through the different principles around the geographical mobility concept, a research field that is at its peak, as a result of the several numbers of migrant workers that leave pushed by the Spanish economic crisis in 2008. To do so, we will take into account the different kinds of mobility (return, circular and onward migration) and the theories based on this concept. Later, taking as a starting point the most recent researches, we will analyze international mobility as a survival strategy by reviewing the role of social media and family, having as background the transnational perspective. Lastly, we will look into how ideally multi-sited ethnography as a theoretical and methodological model works in the study of this kind of ethnography.
