Abstract
The process of reorientation of traditional economic activities in rural areas in Spain has led to changes in employment and in the socio-labor structure, highlighting the emergence of tourism and the relevant role of rural women in their consolidation and in rural development in general. However, the incorporation of women into the tourist labor market shows difficulties and gender inequalities in the level of work activity and pay gap. In this context, these have been characterized through a field work and a survey of workers in accommodation and other tourist establishments in the rural area of Andalusia, including both the entreprises characteristics of the latter and the personal and work of the workers. surveyed. Finally, it was possible to quantify a gender pay gap of 23% to the detriment of the average salaries of rural women, as well identifying other inequalities related to the reconciliation of work and famility life, professional promotion and the accesing managerial and better remunerated positions.
