Abstract
Social segregation has always been a permanent feature of the capitalist city throughout history. However, its particular socio-spatial configuration cannot be described as unchangeable. This article points out the transformations occurred within that configuration in the case of the City of Seville. These changes which took place between 1981 and 2001 are linked to both profound movements in the social shape of urban population and urban interventions aimed at achieving a new model of the city since the late 1980s. Such transformations have not mitigated the socio-spatial differences in the city, but on the contrary, have increased them and generated social changes in specific areas of the city.
