Abstract

The courses of the river of the Iberian Peninsula have been well exploited historically for many purposes, which has generated an important heritage. An example of this is the traditional hydraulic mills that. Although they were forgotten since the mid-20th century nowadays, many of them constitute a reuse of their infrastructure with a tourist orientation or as environmental classrooms. The objective of this essay is to analyze this issue in the Region of Murcia through field work and literature analysis. The results show that some of these buildings are being reused with new purposes, although most of them are of a private use or have a ruinous state. Models of rehabilitation have been the mills of Up and Down, both in the course of the river Mula, in the municipal term of Bullas. They represent an example of the heritage use, which has a direct impact on the rural and local development of this territory.
