Abstract
The study focuses on conceptualizing of rural tourist destinations from a holistic perspective. Based on the General Systems Theory and its subsequent application to tourism, the paper tries to identify the various factors affecting rural tourism destinations. For this purpose, the analysis of scientific studies published from a database search was necessary. This study provides a literature review about the concept of rural tourism and pull and push factors in rural areas. This analysis allowed to clarifying some key issues to consider in planning rural destinations as the need to strengthen the relationships and collaborations between the different stakeholders, the cohesion of tourism policies and the integration of supply and demand.
